I like Star Trek as much as the next girl…

But…

I’ve never considered decking out my kitchen with these items:

The USS Enterprise pizza cutter…boldy go where your pepperoni has never gone before…

Enterprise Pizza Cutter
“Dammit Jim, I’m a Doctor, not a pizza delivery boy!”

Or how about these beautiful hanging lights:

image

“No Billy, the aliens aren’t really coming from the ceiling.   It’s the Enterprise…they are friendly.”

I also can’t say that I’d have one of these hanging in my kitchen either:

The family room, sure, but not the kitchen.

“What time is dinner?”

“Half past the Klingon War Bird”

Teach ‘em young Trekkers – teach ‘em young.

(Pizza slicer found at www.thinkgeek.com, Starship hanging light at http://www.geekologie.com/2009/11/classy_a_starship_enterprise_c.php, and the clock – bask again in it’s awesomeness… http://www.techchee.com/2009/04/28/star-trek-clock/

Fabulous Finds Friday – Harkins Summer Movie Fun

Okay, so this one only affects those of you who live in a location where there are Harkins Theatres…which I do – so there.

Every summer Harkins does this amazing thing…they play movies.  Just for kids.  At a huge discount.

It’s great. It’s fabulous -  it’s something to do away from the house and out of the heat.

Typically the movies are older releases – things that have been played in the theatre in the last year or so.  This year, for example the movies include Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, Ice Age:Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakwel

Anyway – you get 10 movies for 7 bucks (per child of course)…so for my family of 5 kids plus me it was a whopping – are you ready???  $42.00.

image

10 weeks worth of movie theatre fun, and only $42 bucks.

The really cool thing is this:

I have a really big purse, and I’m not afraid to use it.  No – I’m not smuggling in neighborhood children (did you not just see that I take FIVE children with me voluntarily?)  No, I bring snacks.  And nobody seems to care.  In fact, most people bring their own snacks.   Of course, they have refreshments there – but I’m a bargain hunter so … ppppppllllbbbbttttt!!!

So, if you live in Arizona, California, Colorado, Texas or Oklahoma – check it out.  Trust me it’s totally worth it…

Oh, and there’s this too – the entire theatre is filled with kids – so if yours gets a little noisy or unruly – nobody cares.

Sweet.

Twilight…

I love Twilight.  That period before dusk where the sky is a brilliant shade of blueish blackish navy and the stars are just starting to appear…

wait – what?

Twilight is a book?

and a movie???

Okay – yes, I did know that…and out of principle alone I’ve not read it (or seen the movie(s).  I can appreciate a good book and a great movie – it’s the MERCHANDISING that drives me bonkers.

Yes, of course there’s the obligatory Twilight Lunch box (which of us as kids DIDN’T have a lunch box with our favorite movie character or super hero on it?)  I can leave that alone.

image

I can even appreciate the Twilight bedding set for the teenage girl who is absolutely without a doubt on Team Emeril  (what?  whatever his name is then.)

image

But – I mean --- Really???

How about a onesie for the not yet addicted (as far as they know)

image

Or a bra…

image

how about your very own Edward to cuddle with (in Pillow form of course?)

image

No, not like that….One more like this:

image

I gotta tell you, I really don’t see what all these women see in him…

Seriously though, the minute I see an Edward or Bella toothbrush, I may have to have myself temporarily committed to a home for the insane…just promise not to have me roomed with any vampires.

Edith Ann? Is that You?

image

Yep, that’s Edith Ann…the happy (obnoxious) five year old played by Lily Tomlin – in her giant rocking chair.  She was funny, entertaining and quite comfortable in her genius – which could only come from Lily Tomlin

 image

And this is …well … just plain weird.  But, ya know, if you want to try out your inner Edith Ann, be my guest.  (Found at Hammacher Schlemmer…of course.)

That’s right, you too can sleep like a Jedi.

Thank you Anara for finding this (and providing the headline!) – and you are right, this website can afford a full year’s worth of posts – I love a good Go-to resource!

Be The Envy of the Neighborhood…

I love the movie “A Christmas Story” – what self respecting child of the 80’s doesn’t?

Of course my favorite scene is the one where Dad receives a “major award” in a giant boxed marked “Fragile” (must be from FRANCE!).    What would be inside said box?  A GIANT Lady leg, with a lampshade at the top of course!

Men across America salivated.

Women across America hid the checkbooks.

Luckily, there wasn’t a lamp like this available - - -in any store - - - until Al Gore invented the internet.

image

Can you hear the people in the neighborhood?  “what is it?”  “It looks like a giant leg”….

Buy Dad one today.  Mom will love you for it.  Really.  Just don’t blame her when it mysteriously breaks.  And, don’t expect an invitation to Christmas dinner either.

****just a note – someone will buy this – and has … it sold out at Christmas three years running.  ****
